Solar lights work by absorbing and converting the sun's energy to recharge the battery housed behind the solar panel. They work best when the solar panel is in direct sunlight. Our own solar lights have often outlasted the expectations we have of them, but their longevity does depend on the panel positioning, and the type and strength of exposure the unit faces.
